ASTON FENCING ACADEMY
Aston Fencing Academy is not a traditional fencing club focused on gradings and competition ladders. Instead, it is a high-energy, structured programme for children aged 5–12 designed to keep them active, engaged and enjoying every minute.
From the moment sessions begin, children are immersed in a fast-paced environment built around games, light combat drills and target challenges. The focus is simple: keep it fun, keep it moving and keep children fully involved. Skills are developed naturally, without sessions ever feeling rigid or overly technical.
Across each 10-week programme, children improve speed, agility, balance and reaction time in a way that feels enjoyable rather than instructional. Fencing provides the framework, but the benefits go far beyond the sport itself. Every session develops coordination, decision-making and focus, helping children think quickly and move with confidence.
Confidence is built through positive competition and teamwork. Children learn how to support each other, work within a group and handle both winning and losing in a healthy way. There is clear structure in every session, but no pressure. The environment is inclusive, encouraging and designed to help every child feel capable, regardless of experience.
Above all, Aston Fencing Academy supports both physical development and mental wellbeing. Children leave sessions energised, more coordinated and more confident than when they arrived. It is purposeful training delivered in a way that feels exciting, active and rewarding.
We also offer smaller, carefully structured sessions for children with SEN and additional needs. These groups are intentionally limited in size, allowing activities to be adapted to each child, building trust gradually and creating a calm, supportive environment where every child can progress at their own pace.

SPEED
Speed is developed through sharp movement, quick reactions and purposeful drills that keep children fully engaged. Sessions are designed to challenge both body and mind, helping young fencers respond faster, move with control and make confident decisions under pressure. Through structured games and dynamic exercises, children learn to accelerate, change direction and react instinctively without losing balance or focus. It isn’t about rushing. it’s about controlled, intelligent movement that builds agility and coordination week by week. As speed improves, so does self-belief. Children begin to trust their instincts, commit to their actions and carry that sharpness into everything they do, both on and off the piste.

FOCUS
Focus is strengthened through structured sessions that demand attention, discipline and clear thinking. Children learn to listen, observe and respond with intention rather than impulse. Each drill is built with purpose, encouraging concentration in short, controlled bursts that gradually extend over time. As they practise timing, distance and decision-making, they begin to develop the ability to stay present and composed, even when energy levels rise. The environment is active but measured, allowing children to train their attention in a way that feels engaging rather than overwhelming. Over the course of the programme, many parents notice improved concentration and self-control, not just in the session, but in everyday situations as well.

CONFIDENCE
Confidence grows through steady progress and genuine achievement. As children master new skills and overcome small challenges each week, they begin to recognise what they are capable of. The structured environment allows them to take risks in a controlled way, try again when something doesn’t work and experience success through effort rather than luck. Positive competition and clear feedback help build resilience, while teamwork reinforces a sense of belonging. Over time, children stand taller, commit more fully and carry themselves with greater assurance. The aim is not loud confidence, but quiet self-belief, the kind that comes from knowing they can step forward and handle what’s in front of them.
SEN & ADDITIONAL SUPPORT
Planned for 2027, subject to sufficient interest.
At Aston Fencing Academy, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to enjoy fencing in a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment.
Children with SEN and additional support needs are warmly welcomed into our regular academy sessions. Every child is different, and many thrive in our standard classes. We will always do our best to help children feel comfortable, included, and supported throughout their fencing journey.
As our academy grows, we also plan to introduce a dedicated SEN & Additional Support Programme, subject to sufficient interest from local families. These smaller classes are intended for children who may find larger groups or traditional sports clubs overwhelming, including those with autism, ADHD, physical disabilities, anxiety, or other additional support needs.
To provide the best possible experience, class sizes will be limited to a maximum of 12 children. Smaller groups allow us to create a calmer atmosphere, reduce distractions, and provide more individual attention. Rather than expecting children to adapt to a standard class, our aim is to adapt the sessions to meet the needs of those attending.
Before enrolment, we will arrange a short conversation with parents to understand each child’s strengths, interests, sensitivities, and any support they may need. Parents will also be welcome to stay during the first few sessions if it helps their child settle in with confidence.
The focus of these classes will be on confidence, coordination, communication, and enjoyment. Through fun, structured fencing activities, children will develop new skills, build self belief, make friends, and enjoy regular physical exercise in a calm, encouraging, and inclusive environment. Every child will be supported to progress at their own pace, with effort, participation, and personal achievement celebrated every step of the way.
If you think your child would benefit from a dedicated SEN & Additional Support class, we’d love to hear from you. Please via our contact page. If we receive sufficient demand, we hope to launch our first programme during 2027.
F.A.Q.
Who is the programme for?
The academy is designed for children aged 5–12 who want to build speed, coordination and confidence in a structured but enjoyable environment. No previous fencing experience is required. Sessions are suitable for beginners as well as children who have participated in sports before.
How much does the programme cost?
Each 10-week block is £150 per child. This covers one-hour weekly sessions for the full duration of the programme, along with all specialist equipment.
Why is it a 10-week block rather than pay-as-you-go?
The academy is structured to build progressively. Consistency plays a key role in helping children develop skill, confidence and focus. Running the programme in fixed 10-week blocks allows us to maintain stable group sizes, secure venues in advance and deliver a focused training environment without weekly disruption.
Is payment refundable?
Places are secured on a full block basis and payments are non-refundable due to venue commitments and limited capacity. However, in cases of illness, holidays or exceptional circumstances, we will always try to accommodate carry-over sessions into the following block where possible.
Can my child join part way through a block?
Yes, subject to availability. If there is space in the group, your child can join mid-block. The full 10 sessions are still provided, with any remaining sessions carried forward into the next programme.
What happens if my child misses a session?
If a child misses a session due to illness, holidays or other personal circumstances, the session cannot be refunded.
Where possible, missed sessions may be carried forward to a future programme at the discretion of Aston Fencing Academy.
Because places in each programme are limited and equipment and venues are booked in advance, it is not always possible to guarantee a replacement session.
Where are the sessions held?
Sessions will take place at various indoor venues across Buckinghamshire. Locations may vary depending on the intake and availability. Please refer to the Venues page for current locations and details.
How many children are in each session?
Each academy session is capped at a maximum of 18 children. This ensures sessions remain structured, safe and high quality. Group sizes are carefully managed to maintain focus and engagement.
For SEN classes, spaces are reduced to 12 children to ensure we can provide additional support, maintain a calm and inclusive environment, and give each child the time and attention they need to feel comfortable and confident during the session.
Is fencing safe for children?
Yes. All sessions are led by a qualified Level 1 fencing coach with safeguarding certification, enhanced DBS clearance and paediatric first aid training. Age-appropriate equipment is provided, and all activities are supervised within a controlled environment.
What should my child wear?
Comfortable sports clothing and trainers are ideal. All fencing equipment is supplied and fitted appropriately during the session.
What happens after the 10 weeks?
The academy is designed to grow with the child. Each 10-week block follows a structured framework, but the content evolves over time. As children develop their skills, sessions become more challenging, introducing new drills, more advanced movement patterns and increasingly tactical exercises.
Children who continue into the next block are not simply repeating the same programme. They are building on previous foundations, progressing steadily in both skill and confidence.
