Meet Aston, Founder and Head Coach
Kids Fencing Coach Buckinghamshire | About Aston Fencing Academy

Aston Fencing Academy was founded by Aston Bowring, a passionate young coach with a lifelong love of sport and a natural ability to connect with children.
Since studying Sports Science at college, Aston has worked in child sports education within Ofsted environments, helping children build confidence, coordination and fitness through sport. His goal with Aston Fencing Academy is simple. To introduce children to fencing in a way that is exciting, welcoming and most importantly fun.
Aston believes that when children enjoy what they are doing, learning happens naturally.
A Lifelong Passion for Sport
Sport has always been a huge part of Aston’s life.
From a young age he showed a natural ability across many sports. At just 10 years old he competed in the Junior National Gymnastics Championships, finishing runner up. The following year he again took second place. Refusing to give up, Aston returned the following year and won the national title at age 12.
Throughout secondary school he continued to excel in sport. Aston captained the Sir William Ramsay School rugby team from age 13 through to 16. During his final year the team made history, becoming the only non grammar school to reach the national finals, eventually finishing as runners up.
Alongside rugby, football has always remained a huge part of Aston’s life. He has played for several local clubs including Seer Green United, Prestwood Colts and Risborough Rangers in the Wycombe and South Bucks Minor Football League.
Today Aston is also an FA County Level Football Referee, officiating both men’s and women’s matches across the region.
Qualified, Experienced and Safe
While Aston brings energy and enthusiasm to every session, safety and professionalism always come first.
Aston holds the following qualifications and certifications:
• Trained in KS1 & KS2 Foundation Fencing delivery, specialising in introducing fencing to young children in a safe and engaging way
• Safeguarding training covering both children and adults
• Child Protection in Sport and Physical Activity, CPD Certified via NSPCC Learning
• Fully qualified in Paediatric First Aid
Aston is also committed to ongoing professional development and is continuing to build his coaching qualifications within fencing.
He has several years of experience working within structured child sport environments, including Ofsted regulated settings.
Every session is carefully planned and delivered using age appropriate equipment and structured activities, ensuring a safe, well organised and supportive environment where children can learn, develop and enjoy the experience.
A Natural Coach
What really sets Aston apart is his natural ability to work with children.
Even during his school years, teachers often asked Aston to help assist with PE sessions because of the way he connected with younger students.
Since then he has gone on to lead classes of up to 30 children at a time, developing the skills needed to keep sessions structured, energetic and enjoyable.
Children tend to warm to Aston very quickly. Because they trust him and enjoy his sessions, they listen, engage and get the most from the experience.
It is this natural connection that often leads children to describe him as their favourite coach.
Learning Through Fun
At Aston Fencing Academy, the sessions are carefully designed to feel like play rather than formal training.
Aston personally designs the programmes used within the academy, selecting games and activities that build important skills such as:
Coordination
Confidence
Agility
Focus
Teamwork
While the children are having fun, they are also developing valuable physical and cognitive skills without even realising it.
This approach keeps children engaged and helps them build confidence both in sport and in themselves.
Party Adventures and High Energy Sessions
In addition to running academy classes, Aston has extensive experience leading children’s birthday parties and activity events.
At his previous roles he regularly delivered large group party sessions, where energy levels can be high and excitement levels even higher.
This experience has given him the ability to manage lively groups of children while keeping sessions fun, controlled and safe.
Children love the energy Aston brings to these events, and parents appreciate how well he keeps everything running smoothly.
Life Outside Coaching
When he is not coaching, Aston is usually outdoors or playing sport.
He has recently completed several major hiking challenges including climbing Scafell Pike, Snowdon and Mount Skiddaw.
Later this year he will be taking on an even bigger challenge, walking the entire 96.5 mile West Highland Way from Glasgow to Fort William over five days.
Staying active and pushing personal limits is something Aston truly believes in, and it is a mindset he encourages in the children he coaches.
A Coach Who Truly Cares
For Aston, coaching is more than just a job.
His greatest reward is seeing children leave sessions smiling, more confident and excited to come back again.
Whether it is helping a child try fencing for the very first time or watching their confidence grow week by week, Aston takes genuine pride in knowing that his sessions are making a positive difference.
